Happy Trollbeads Day 2014!

When I first heard about Trollbeads Day and the limited edition bead, I was excited, but also a little cautious. I’m really trying to stick to my rule that I have to love a bead in order to buy it, so without knowing what the bead was going to look like I had no idea if I should preorder it or not. And the buzz was that this was actually going to be limited release, unlike most that come out.

As retailers started taking reservations with the caveat that you could cancel once you saw the bead, I almost put my name in for one, but I still didn’t really want to wait one to two weeks for the bead to arrive in the mail. My original plan was to look at pictures when they were released, and then boot down to my LD to pick up the bead before it sold out, but when I stopped in two weeks ago to inquire whether they were also taking reservations, instead they looked at me as if I had two heads (or three ;)). They hadn’t even heard about Trollbeads Day, nevermind actually ordering beads. So, I decide to err on the side of caution and put my name in for a bead with an online retailer and crossed my fingers that I would like it.

Of course, once pictures started rolling out the last few days, I realized that the bead was cored vertically. There’s just something very wrong to me about beads that are sideways on a bracelet, and I don’t have much use for beads that go on a fantasy necklace, so although I liked the design, I really wasn’t sure how I would use the bead. In the end, I decided to keep my order and my bead should be winging its way to me over the next week or so. In the meantime, I wanted to celebrate Trollbeads Day, even if I had to celebrate with the beads on hand! :D

Now, while I said that I don’t have much use for beads that are oriented for a fantasy necklace, I didn’t say that I don’t have a fantasy necklace. I’ve never bought a Trollbeads fantasy necklace, but when I fell in love with the Cherub and Baby Dragon I did fashion two fantasy-type necklaces for them to reside on (although my Baby Dragon hasn’t graced his necklace ever since I discovered how to get him on my Trollbeads leather bracelet.)

In honour of the fact that the Trollbeads Day 2014 bead is vertically cored, I decided to put together a necklace for today! My Tuplik, Mouth was an obvious choice for me since he is so trollish and I love how he “eats” the necklace! The others were chosen mostly to compliment the outfit that I felt like wearing today :D

Are you celebrating Trollbeads Day today?
